Job Summary: WMTV 15 News has an immediate opening for a News and Digital Content Producer. The role creates, coordinates, and showcases content across on‑air and online platforms, and you will be cross‑trained to produce content for WMTV’s website and streamed feeds. You must be an innovator with a meticulous eye for detail, writing conversationally for TV and in AP style for digital.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Report to the News Director, Assistant News Director and Executive Producer to shape and execute WMTV’s digital‑first strategy.
Act with urgency and immediacy, researching and writing copy daily as new information emerges.
Identify opportunities for live streaming on the website, integrating live and user‑generated content into TV newscasts and the News Now Desk, and push alerts to extend reach.
Ensure story selection and placement adhere to journalistic and editorial standards and WMTV’s brand pillars.
Understand the Madison DMA, key target audiences and their media habits.
Produce engaging, error‑free work with rigorous attention to detail.
Communicate and collaborate professionally and respectfully with coworkers to enhance viewer experience.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Prefer a college degree in journalism or a related field, with at least one year of newsroom or digital producing experience.
Desire to win, a positive attitude, and openness to feedback.
Strong research and critical‑thinking skills; ability to dig beyond press releases and verify news tips.
Excellent time‑management, multitasking and composure under deadline pressure.
Established presence on digital platforms, including social media.
Working knowledge of CMS and digital platforms (ARC, Social News Desk, CrowdTangle); Photoshop experience is a plus.
Understanding and adherence to AP style.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Flexibility to work varied hours and shifts, including covering for coworkers and breaking news.
