M&A and Corporate Development Associate The Mather Group (TMG) is seeking an Associate to join our M&A and Corporate Development team. This role will support the firm’s strategic growth through financial analysis, valuation, and due diligence across acquisition opportunities. Prior exposure to M&A transactions through internships, coursework, or professional experience is required, with financial services or RIA industry experience a plus.
The Associate will be responsible for building and interpreting a variety of financial and valuation models, including three-statement, discounted cash flow, comparable company, precedent transaction, and merger/LBO models. Candidates should bring strong analytical skills, familiarity with accounting and operational metrics, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. A successful Associate at TMG is a proactive team player with a strong drive, solution-oriented mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the M&A team in driving all facets of TMG’s inorganic growth strategy including the preparation of presentation materials, financial analysis, competitive landscape analysis, pipeline management, and transaction related activities
Assist the M&A team in all aspects of the deal, including sourcing, qualification, initial rationale/pitch, financial modeling, due diligence, and closing and integration activities
Lead and participate in due diligence processes, including financial reviews, management meetings, and diligence calls with prospective sellers and bankers or brokers to evaluate risks and opportunities
Attend industry conferences and networking events to build relationships, source opportunities, and stay informed on market trends
Coordinate across functional teams and key stakeholders within TMG to ensure smooth transaction processes and integrations
Develop, build, and maintain the firm’s target M&A pipeline and acquisition efforts aligned with TMG’s inorganic growth initiatives
Evaluate and summarize M&A prospect information discovered through marketing materials, public filings, meetings, calls, and other relevant sources to assess financial performance and operational fit
Help prepare financial models and presentation materials for use in firm analysis and internal/external presentations using PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and other presentation tools
Stay informed about industry trends and competitive landscape through ongoing review of industry publications, industry conferences, and published reports
Increase awareness of TMG by conveying the firm’s value proposition to financial advisors and firm owners
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics or other related field from an accredited college or university (MBA or other advanced degree a plus)
2 to 5 years of full-time work experience in Corporate Development, Private Equity, Investment Banking, Venture Capital, or related field within M&A
Experience within the financial services industry (experience within the RIA industry a plus)
Strong analytical skills, ability to perform rigorous financial and valuation analysis, and familiarity with key accounting and operational metrics
Understanding in financial statement analysis and valuation modeling including the ability to build a variety of financial and valuation models (i.e., three statement model, discounted cash flow, comparable company analysis, precedent transaction analysis, and merger/LBO models)
Team player, ability to build relationships, strong drive, proactive mindset, solution-oriented, and positive attitude
Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to adapt to different audiences
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools.

Reports to: Head of M&A and Corporate Development
Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 + 10% Bonus
