Job Summary The Certified Pharmacy Technician aids pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services to patients by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patients including neonatal, pediatric, adolescence, adult, and geriatric. Under minimal supervision, this role performs the required duties of a technician at a high level of proficiency, demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership for the success of the work area. This position also learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period.
Licensure and Certification Requirements for Hire
Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR valid ExCPT certification provided by the National Health Career Association.
Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
Clean criminal record (no felony conviction; no drug or pharmacy related convictions, including misdemeanors; no denial, suspension, revocation, or restriction of registration or licensure by any State Board of Pharmacy).
Licensure and Certification Requirements for Continued Employment
Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR valid ExCPT certification provided by the National Health Career Association.
Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy.
Experience Required: N/A
One year previous pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting.
Previous experience using a standard keyboard and typing speed of 20-30 words per minute.
Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Independent Actions
Performs tasks designated by the pharmacist to assist in patient care that do not legally require a pharmacist's supervision or verification.
Communicates effectively with all staff members.
Identifies equipment or operational problems and brings them to the attention of a pharmacist or pharmacy manager.
Interacts with other health care practitioners in a multidisciplinary environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities N/A

Must be available to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency coverage.

Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs.
Activities: Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking.
Emotional: Fast pace environment, steady pace, able to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment, able to adapt to frequent change.
