Full‑time, permanent position in the Customer Services Division of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court. Target pay range: $22.750 per hour. Opening date: 12‑22‑2025. Close date: 01‑06‑2026.
Essential Tasks:
Manage court cases in a court of limited original jurisdiction. File documents, receive fines, fees and bond payments; balance and reconcile daily cash receipts; prepare daily bank deposits. Respond to inquiries from the legal and law‑enforcement community and the public. Research automated and hard‑copy files for case‑status information and information regarding parties to the case. Enter case information into a case‑management system and create, maintain, and close hard‑copy case files. Arrange service and mail to parties; research defendant warrants and prior conviction history; flag drivers’ licenses; pull case files and court documents; coordinate completion of court documents. Monitor and track sentence deferment and probation compliance records; review files for sentence deferments. Maintain logs and prepare statistical reports. Use computer software, including Excel, financial accounting and case‑management systems, and word processing and spreadsheets.
Key Responsibilities (examples):
Open, docket, and close cases using the case‑management system; determine case type and assess filing fee if required.
Provide customer service to pro se litigants by giving general procedural information without legal advice.
Process, maintain, and distribute documents, files, and case materials.
Handle cash until and ensure court fees are accurately assessed, paid, receipted, and recorded.
Prepare and proofread documents such as notices, final orders, and bond reports.
Support jury processes: prepare jury summons, alpha lists, voir‑dire sheets, seating charts, and manage the jury trial calendar.
Serve as a court monitor and perform clerical and technical duties related to case processing, file maintenance, and jury management.
Other duties assigned by supervisors.
Competencies and Qualifications:
A successful applicant should demonstrate knowledge of legal terminology, jury service, filing methods, case processing, Specialty Court Programs, research methodology, project management, court fee accounting, monitoring procedures, the Court Clerk’s Procedures Manual, the Code of Ethics, language‑access policies, and the certified line for interpreting. General organizational structure of the judiciary is also required.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Work performed in an office or court setting.
Valid driver’s license may be required; travel may be required.
Work schedule may include overtime.
Must interact positively with co‑workers, clients, judges, and the public.
