Position Summary Performs and manages a crew installing, maintaining, and repairing underground utility systems such as traffic signal, fiber optic, ITS, and roadway lighting. This role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project plans, specifications, and regulations. The Foreman will also help train and develop apprentices on the job, prepare reports, submit timekeeping, and job briefings as needed.
Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate daily activities of underground utility crew.
Interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Ensure compliance with safety procedures, OSHA standards, and company policies.
Conduct daily job site inspections and pre-task planning to identify hazards and mitigate risks.
Coordinate with project managers, inspectors, engineers, and subcontractors.
Track crew productivity, timekeeping, and materials used.
Schedule equipment and materials delivery to job sites.
Operate and oversee use of heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, trenchers, backhoes).
Perform quality checks to verify proper depth, slope, alignment, and compaction.
Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members to ensure high performance and safety.
Maintain detailed project records, including daily reports and as-built documentation.
Requirements
Must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
Valid Class A or B CDL license or permit and current valid DOT physical required.
Previous experience in underground power distribution required.
Previous leadership experience preferred.
Safe driving record.
Must have a positive and cooperative attitude and excellent attendance.
Must be able to get along with fellow workers, other tradesmen on the jobsite, inspectors, customers, and the public.
Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds.
Set an example with proper use of safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all types of hand tools.
