Registered Nurse
Job Description
As a Registered Nurse in the school setting, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well‑being of students within the educational environment.
Responsibilities
Health Assessments: Conduct health assessments of students to identify any medical conditions, injuries, or illnesses requiring attention.
Health Education: Provide education to students, staff, and parents on nutrition, hygiene, sexual health, and disease prevention.
Medication Management: Administer medication to students as prescribed by healthcare providers and maintain accurate records of medications administered.
First Aid and Emergency Response: Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate first aid care as needed, collaborating with emergency responders when necessary.
Health Counseling: Offer guidance and counseling to students regarding health‑related concerns, including mental health issues, substance abuse, and personal hygiene.
Health Promotion Programs: Develop and implement health promotion programs within the school community to encourage healthy lifestyle choices and prevent illness.
Collaboration with Healthcare Providers: Communicate with healthcare providers, including physicians, therapists, and specialists, to coordinate care for students with chronic medical conditions.
Documentation and Record‑Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all students, including health histories, immunization records, and treatment plans.
Health Screenings: Conduct health screenings, such as vision and hearing tests, to identify potential health issues early and facilitate appropriate interventions.
Collaboration with School Staff: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to support the overall well‑being of students and create a healthy learning environment.
Qualifications
Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of California.
Experience working in pediatric or school health settings preferred.
BLS/CPR certification.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Knowledge of laws and regulations related to school health services.
