Responsibilities
Transcribe and transmit doctor’s orders to appropriate areas under supervision of a registered nurse, and confer with charge or assigned nurses regarding patient scheduling and testing.
Follow up consistently on written and oral instructions; promptly report matters requiring immediate nursing intervention.
Perform clerical functions for physicians within the Unit Secretary’s sphere of responsibility.
Answer telephone and call light systems, take messages, and communicate them to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
Manage admission and discharge paperwork, including medical records from other facilities.
Compile new charts, maintain current charts, and enter patient information on computers.
Replenish charts with MD order sheets, progress notes, consult sheets, and other sheets as necessary, ensuring all sheets have patient identification stickers.
Place telemetry stickers in progress notes for all telemetry patients on a daily basis.
Perform all patient record activities and charting transcriptions with close attention to detail and accuracy.
File printouts under appropriate corresponding dividers.
Adhere to HIPAA regulations concerning patient and employee confidentiality.
Maintain emergency charts and other documentation as required.
Discharge patients from the computer system in a timely fashion and disassemble all charts of discharged patients within the same shift.
Maintain a neat and tidy work environment; secure all patient records and other documents as necessary.
Ensure delivery of excellent customer service, resulting in positive patient satisfaction scores for the department and medical center.
Qualifications
High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent.
Computer competence.
Minimum of six months clerical experience preferred.
Compensation
Minimum Rate: $19.33 per hour.
