Transactional/Litigation Secretary/Practice Assistant II (Century City) Overview Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, a global AmLaw 100 firm, has a new opportunity for a Practice Assistant in the Century City office. Sheppard Mullin is seeking a Practice Assistant to support the Practice Team Lead in the Firm’s Corporate & Securities Practice Group. The Practice Assistant will receive mentoring and training on various projects, including editing and proofreading legal documents, managing calendars and travel, managing cases, and providing billing/expense support. Technical, organizational, and administrative skills are necessary to handle the duties and responsibilities outlined below. The Practice Assistant will learn to work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment, requiring prioritization and flexibility. Taking instructions from the Practice Team Lead and collaborating with firm personnel at all levels will be integral to this role. Responsibilities Editing and proofreading legal documents. Managing calendars and travel. Managing cases. Providing billing/expense support. Handling multiple projects with changing priorities while working independently in a fast‑paced environment. Ability to work overtime, evenings, and weekends as needed. Required Qualifications A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a professional services firm or organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly learn new software. Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and excellent time‑management skills to meet deadlines. Excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills. Ability to handle multiple projects with changing priorities while working independently in a fast‑paced environment. Ability to work overtime, evenings, and weekends, as needed. Education And/or Experience A bachelor's degree is required. License and Certification None required. A secretarial certification or ABA‑approved paralegal certification is preferred. Computer/Software Knowledge Some proficiency in Windows 10, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and Teams is preferred. Experience working with a document management system is a plus. Must be able to quickly learn new skills and systems. Work Environment Working indoors with limited exposure to hazards (only those that customarily come up with working in a high‑rise building). Indoor office work environment in a cubical or workstation. Current Firm policy is hybrid–working in the office a minimum of three days per week, and working from home the rest of the week (subject to change). Overtime may be required as the job duties demand. Compensation California: The pay range for this position is $23.00 to $36.00 per hour.
