Overview MG Phlebotomist role at Brown University Health. The position provides supervisory duties for the lab technical staff and coordinates daily specimen collection and testing operations. The role ensures instrument maintenance, staff orientation to lab policies and procedures, and regulatory compliance in collaboration with the Lab Manager. The incumbent serves as the technical safety representative for the laboratory department and participates in the safety committee, ensuring safety regulations are followed within the department. Responsibilities Laboratory Team Leader: supervise the phlebotomy staff (scheduling and annual appraisals); provide testing duties at the Faunce Corner Rd laboratory; maintain instrumentation with daily/weekly/monthly maintenance and troubleshooting; review quality control and maintain quality assurance (instrument linearity, precision, and correlation studies); phlebotomy backup as needed; contribute to process and procedure development for the Faunce Corner Road laboratory and site; train new lab employees for this location; maintain patient confidentiality; perform other duties as assigned; report directly to the Laboratory Manager. Laboratory Safety Representative: review and maintain MSDS sheets; identify safety and health issues and implement corrective plans; maintain OSHA compliance; implement new health and safety regulations; establish safety procedures and maintain records; stay current on health and safety issues applicable to the laboratory; serve on the Health and Safety Committee; provide technical support on lab safety issues; participate in hazard analysis for the lab; perform other safety duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications 4 years of clinical laboratory experience in all areas to be supervised and working knowledge of Federal and State occupational safety regulations as they apply to the laboratory. Ability to coordinate a productive technical team to maximize efficient operations; ability to troubleshoot lab-related issues with company personnel, regulatory agencies, consultants, and other contractors; daily coordination of lab/phlebotomy staffing. Education Bachelor of Science degree in a physical science. Working Conditions While performing duties, frequently required to walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, climb/balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
