The Business Data Analyst supports the Data Engineering & Business Intelligence team by helping triage data issues, gather basic requirements, validate data, and perform foundational QA checks. This role plays a key part in ensuring data products, dashboards, and reports are accurate and reliable for everyday operational use. Working closely with clinical operations, revenue cycle, and internal subject matter experts, you’ll learn how to translate real‑world questions into structured requirements and document workflows that inform data solutions. This position is ideal for someone early in their data career who is analytical, detail‑oriented, curious, and eager to grow at the intersection of data, process, and healthcare operations.
Whatyou willdo:
Serve as the first point of contact for simple data quality or reporting issues.
Perform basic troubleshooting to confirm whether an issue can be reproduced.
Gather details, document steps taken, and elevate more complex issues to senior analysts or engineers.
Help maintain a structured intake process for ad‑hoc analysis requests, questions, and enhancement ideas. Create, categorize, and support prioritization of tickets for engineering team.
Assist with gathering and clarifying business requirements from clinical, operational, and financial teams.
Help translate workflow steps into draft data requirements under guidance from senior team members.
Contribute to maintaining data dictionaries, metric definitions, and documentation libraries. Support development of a centralized metrics catalog and internal Wiki.
Perform QA checks and validate data at a basic level (record counts, field consistency, expected ranges) on dashboards, datasets, and metric updates.
Follow established test plans, checklists, and regression steps. Support data quality improvement efforts.
Flag discrepancies or unexpected results for review by developers, senior analysts, business stakeholders, and Subject Matter Experts. Document findings clearly for later review.
Conduct low‑complexity exploratory analyses and assist in monitoring key data assets for anomalies, missing data, or upstream changes.
Provide clean extracts or preliminary summaries to support discovery efforts & ad‑hoc analyses by senior team members.
Learn to interpret metric definitions and apply them consistently.
Communicate findings, questions, or test results clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Participate in cross‑functional discussions to understand business processes and data usage.
Assumes other responsibilities as appropriate to the position and organizational needs.
Qualifications:
Experience in Business Analysis, Data QA, Data Quality, UAT, Product/BA hybrid work or similar.
Exposure to writing business requirements, including user stories and acceptance criteria.
Ability to document steps, field definitions, and initial requirements clearly; willing to learn how to capture business rules and data logic.
Exposure to data validation or testing concepts (regression testing, test plans, etc.); formal experience is a plus, not required.
Comfort working with multiple stakeholders and asking clarifying questions.
Exposure to ticketing systems and structured intake tools (Jira, ClickUp , ServiceNow, Zendesk).
Basic SQL skills for data profiling and investigation.
Familiarity with ETL concepts, KPIs or business rules. Ability to interpret and validate metric definitions and KPIs.
Familiarity with BI/reporting tools preferred or any background experience involving data entry, databases, or QA / Test automation.
Familiarity with EMR data(IMS, PrognoCIS, eCW , Epic, etc.), healthcare concepts (scheduling, encounters, claims, diagnoses, procedures) or Revenue Cycle Management work flows is preferred.
Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to gather feedback and translate it into clear notes or draft requirements.
Compensation Range:
$70,000 to $80,000 Annually
All compensation ranges are posted based on internal equity, job requirements, experience, and geographical locations.
