Assistant Manager - RRPL - Component Production
Join Gulf Coast Blood ’s team of heroes. The Assistant Manager reports to the Component Production Manager and is responsible for overseeing operations in the Research and Recovered Product Laboratory (RRPL). This role ensures compliance with policies, procedures, quality control practices, and coordination of clients, products, and services intended for research and further manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Assume full responsibility for the RRP Laboratory including processes, products, clients, and resources.
Manage client base and coordinate production to meet client specifications, volumes, and delivery expectations.
Oversee processing, packing, and distribution of blood components, ensuring accurate documentation of packing manifests, shipping logs, and unit test results.
Maintain documents, shipment records, quality records, and billing reports to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
Liaise with plasma entities to schedule shipments and reconcile billing.
Reconcile billing and documentation discrepancies.
Ensure products comply with cGMP, SOPs, temperature storage requirements, and client specifications.
Resolve component preparation or shipment issues and implement corrective actions.
Manage updates to client material specifications, packing instructions, shipping instructions, coversheet and COA versions, and communicate all changes to staff.
Administer training and competency assessments for staff.
Co‑mentor staff to maximize professional development.
Serve as primary liaison with MIS for hardware, software needs, and report/application development.
Communicate with clients to ensure accurate and timely orders, providing exceptional customer service.
Monitor equipment and supply inventory, ensuring optimal levels.
Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained per SOP and manufacturer guidelines.
Maintain a clean, safe work area including walk‑in storage equipment.
Prepare data for productivity, KPIs, and goal achievement.
Lead special projects and process improvements per policy.
Serve as SME for internal and external quality audits and assessments of the RRPL area.
Act as operations manager in their absence.
Enforce blood center policies on EEO, cGMPs, and safety/health standards.
Complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related science field with a minimum of three years recent laboratory or blood component manufacturing experience.
Prior experience in plasma and blood component manufacturing highly desirable.
Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification (ASCP or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Minimum of two years supervisory/management experience with direct reports.
Familiarity with quality concepts, cGMP, AABB, and FDA regulations.
Physical Demands
Regular use of hands and arms, routine standing, occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs, and occasional handling of wheeled containers up to 150 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Work Environment
Exposure to blood components and other biohazard materials; sometimes exposure to moving mechanical parts and radiation risk. Occupational noise level is moderate; exposure to extreme cold. Potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, including risks of hepatitis and HIV.
