Senior Digital Hardware Design Engineer – Blue Origin
Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Digital Hardware Design Engineer to develop digital modems for spaceflight RF and lasercom systems. The role is part of the In‑Space Systems business unit focused on space infrastructure and on‑orbit mobility.
Responsibilities
Review and validate complex electronic system designs.
Design high‑speed digital hardware for new communication systems.
Architect real‑world products from prototype concepts.
Recommend hardware and digital architectures to optimize performance, cost, and manufacturability.
Support prototype unit build and test phases.
Maintain detailed documentation of designs, test procedures, and results.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to achieve project objectives.
Stay current on modem‑related hardware components (mixed‑signal products, SoCs, FPGAs, ADCs, DACs, high‑speed electrical and electro‑optical components).
Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience designing complex electronic systems.
Experience with full custom circuit card design cycle – concept through production – including FPGAs, DDR memory, high‑speed SerDes, and microprocessors.
Proficient with HDL (VHDL or Verilog).
Strong understanding of FPGA physical constraints and timing closure.
Experience managing product schedule, cost, and delivery.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years in aerospace or high‑end commercial markets.
Experience designing high‑speed digital and mixed‑signal circuits, including simulation and testing.
Experience with high‑speed digital signal integrity simulation (e.g., HyperLNX).
Knowledge of DSP algorithms and communication theory.
Familiarity with reusable and maintainable design practices.
Experience scripting (Make/TCL/Python) for build infrastructure.
Experience with AMD/Xilinx Versal devices.
Current Top Secret or TS/SCI clearance.
Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Physics.
Compensation
CA: $152,235 – $213,128
CO: $139,979 – $195,970
WA: $152,235 – $213,128
