The role is part of the In‑Space Systems business unit, focused on addressing space infrastructure and increasing mobility on‑orbit. We are seeking a Senior Digital Hardware Design Engineer to develop digital modems used in RF or optical communication (lasercom) systems from initial prototyping to production.
Responsibilities Include (but are Not Limited To)
Review complex electronic systems.
Design and implement high‑speed digital hardware designs for new communication systems.
Apply R&D skills to architect real‑world products and capabilities from ideas or early prototypes.
Recommend hardware and digital architectures that optimize designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
Support prototype unit build and test phases.
Maintain detailed documentation of designs, test procedures, and results.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to achieve project objectives and address technical challenges.
Stay apprised of current and future release modem‑related hardware components including, but not limited to, mixed‑signal products, SoCs, FPGAs, ADCs, DACs, and high‑speed electrical and electro‑optical components.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of experience in engineering roles involving complex electronic systems.
Experience with full custom circuit card design cycle (concept through production) involving FPGAs, DDR memory, high‑speed SerDes and microprocessors.
Ability to work with minimal direction as well as collaboratively with cross‑functional team members.
Experience with HDL (VHDL and/or Verilog).
Understanding of FPGA physical constraints and timing closure.
Experience in product schedule, cost, and delivery management.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
10 years of experience in engineering roles supporting complex electronic systems in the aerospace or high‑end commercial markets.
Experience designing high‑speed digital and mixed‑signal circuits, including analysis, simulation, test, problem‑solving, and part selection.
Experience with high‑speed digital signal integrity simulation using HyperLynx or similar tools.
Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and communication theory (e.g., filter design, clock recovery, signal detection, channel estimation, and equalization).
Familiarity with designing and coding for reuse, maintainability, and scalability.
Experience with scripting (Make/TCL/Python) for command‑line interface build infrastructure and code‑base project management.
Experience with AMD/Xilinx Versal family of devices.
Current Top Secret or TS/SCI Security clearance.
Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
Compensation Range
CA applicants: $152,235.00 – $213,127.95; CO applicants: $139,979.00 – $195,969.90; WA applicants: $152,235.00 – $213,127.95. Other site ranges may differ.
