Job Title Community Engagement Associate Job Classification and Location Classification: Nonexempt, Hourly Location: Indianapolis, Indiana Position Summary The Community Engagement Associate serves as a key team member in building and maintaining Joink’s presence within the Avon-Danville, Indiana community and surrounding areas. This role focuses on supporting relationship‑building efforts with local organizations, businesses, civic groups, and residents through grassroots outreach, event coordination, and community engagement activities. Working under the guidance of senior leadership, the Associate helps facilitate connections between Joink’s leadership team and community stakeholders while learning to independently manage smaller‑scale community initiatives. This position is ideal for an emerging professional who is passionate about community development and eager to grow their skills in stakeholder relations, event management, and strategic community engagement. Reports To Sales Director Supervises No direct reports May coordinate with volunteers or event staff as needed Essential Functions Assist in building and maintaining relationships with local businesses, civic organizations, and community groups in Avon-Danville and surrounding areas under guidance of senior staff. Support Joink’s presence at community events, town meetings, business expos, and networking functions by staffing booths, distributing materials, and facilitating introductions between leadership and attendees. Help coordinate logistics for community events, workshops, and presentations including venue arrangements, materials preparation, and attendee communications. Provide administrative support for educational workshops and informational sessions, including registration, setup, and follow‑up communications. Research and identify potential partnership opportunities and community organizations that align with Joink’s objectives for leadership review. Respond to routine community inquiries and coordinate with appropriate internal teams when issues require escalation. Assist with planning and executing community outreach activities and sponsorship opportunities within established guidelines. Collect contact information and generate qualified leads through community interactions for referral to sales team members. Maintain accurate and detailed records of community engagement activities, contacts, and interactions in CRM system. Monitor local community news, social media, and events to identify engagement opportunities and keep leadership informed. Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to support community initiatives and broader company campaigns. Support social media engagement for local community activities by drafting posts and monitoring responses under supervision. Provide regular reporting on community engagement activities, events attended, and leads generated to supervisor. Participate in corporate social responsibility initiatives and volunteer programs in the local community. Assist with community communications regarding Joink infrastructure projects and service updates. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic understanding of Avon community, local culture, and key stakeholders. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse audiences. Good verbal and written communication abilities. Comfortable with public speaking and representing the organization. Basic event coordination and organizational skills. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Professional demeanor with strong customer service orientation. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Eagerness to learn and develop community engagement skills. Positive attitude and willingness to take direction. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and community needs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 1–2 years of experience in community relations, event coordination, customer service, or related field. Experience with or exposure to community engagement or public‑facing roles preferred. Demonstrated interest in community involvement and relationship building. Some knowledge of Avon, Indiana community beneficial but not required. Valid driver’s license with clean driving record. Candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to Avon, Indiana or greater Indianapolis area. Working Environment Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends for community events and meetings. Hybrid work environment with significant time spent in the community (60–70%) and some office‑based work. Regular travel throughout Avon and surrounding communities within assigned territory. Work performed in various settings including offices, outdoor venues, community centers, and public spaces. May require attendance at early morning or evening events. Occasional travel to other Joink locations or industry events with reimbursable expenses. Physical Demands Must be able to spend extended hours using computer/keyboard and phone. Involves prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking. Requires driving personal or company vehicle for extended periods. May need to lift and carry event materials, displays, and equipment up to 30 pounds. Ability to set up and break down event booths and materials. May work in various weather conditions during outdoor community events.
