The Nurse III House Supervisor performs highly complex nursing work and is responsible for the after‑hours operation of campus‑based nursing services. Responsibilities include managing clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery, developing nursing personnel, ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards, and implementing hospital policies and procedures. The House Supervisor develops staffing plans, initiates re‑assignment of staff, serves as a consultant and clinical/administrative expert after hours, advises hospital leadership on incidents, participates in nursing policy development, and may act as Lead Clinical RN as needed. Essential Job Functions
Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule, including rotating, extended, overtime, and emergency periods. Coordinates after‑hours nursing services, makes rounds to promote nursing visibility, ensures compliance with TJC, CMS, TAC, Texas Board of Nursing, and state hospital system regulations, prepares the daily house supervisor report, implements staffing plans, provides medication and patient monitoring, serves as an on‑site subject‑matter expert, collaborates with hospital leadership, coordinates external visits, manages incidents and abuse/neglect processes, plans admission processes for non‑traditional hours, acts as Administrative Nurse designee during disasters, leads quality assurance activities, and performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of state and federal laws for individuals with mental health issues, State Hospital rules, and regulations Knowledge of Texas Board of Nursing laws and regulations Knowledge of Texas Nurse Practice Act and nursing peer review Knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment, including CPR Knowledge of nursing care standards, Settlement Agreement and Healthcare Guidelines Skill in supervising employees Skill in patient care and use of nursing equipment Skill in analyzing problems and implementing corrective plans Skills in computer/software and electronic health record system Skill in time management and prioritization Ability to communicate effectively to groups and individuals Ability to achieve and maintain collaborative relationships Ability to train all levels of staff Ability to analyze and develop policies, procedures, and reports Ability to interpret regulations and communicate them effectively Ability to evaluate services, identify trends, and develop improvement plans Ability to organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities Ability to instruct, train, and oversee others Ability to maintain required continuing education hours Proficiency in computer/software and electronic health care systems Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications
Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact) prior to hire. Initial Screening Criteria
Graduation from a Nursing Program accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners and at least three (3) years of RN experience in a recognized health agency, hospital or health care facility. Additional Information
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE). Males ages 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service. Applicants must be at least 18 years old (Waco Center for Youth applicants 21).
