Job Description L3Harris MMG Division is seeking a Senior Aerodynamics & Aircraft Performance Engineer for our onsite facility located in Waco, TX. The successful candidate will perform aerodynamics analysis and provide ground and flight test support for fixed‑wing and rotary aircraft to evaluate the effect of aircraft modifications on vehicle performance and aerodynamic loads. A comprehensive knowledge of Aerodynamics, Aircraft Performance, and Handling Qualities is required.
Essential Functions
Perform steady‑state and time‑accurate CFD analyses.
Plan, support, and execute wind tunnel tests.
Plan and support aerodynamic design optimization studies.
Compare predicted aerodynamics with experimental and/or flight test data.
Lead method and tool development and enhancement activities.
Manage large, complex project initiatives of substantial importance to the organization with minimal oversight.
Communicate within and outside the organization to explain and influence changes to practices, processes, and approaches.
Make significant improvements in processes, systems, or products.
Provide input into new products/processes and implement operational plans that have measurable impact on business or functional results.
Apply a strong understanding of Applied Aerodynamics theory.
Apply a strong understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics and numerical methods.
Be willing and able to travel as necessary.
Work any shift, weekends, and overtime as required.
Obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree (MSME, MSAE) with a minimum of 7 years of aircraft aerodynamics experience, or in lieu of a degree, minimum 13 years of related experience.
Minimum 2 years of experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics analyses, mesh generation, and post‑processing codes.
Minimum 2 years of experience in wind tunnel testing.
Minimum 2 years of experience with aircraft performance analysis.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred Additional Skills
Experience with Pointwise, NASA FUN3D, and FieldView.
Experience with store separation analyses and testing.
Familiarity with civil and military airworthiness requirements.
Experience in MATLAB/Simulink.
High‑performance computing administration.
Experience in aircraft stability analysis.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer knowledge.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
