Position Overview We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Surveyors and Crew Chiefs to lead field survey operations for heavy civil infrastructure (highway/bridge) and energy projects across the US. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented Surveyor with at least 3 years in construction survey, strong leadership capabilities, and knowledge in dimensional control and industrial measurement. You will establish and maintain methods for safe, accurate, and efficient survey field operations, ensuring accuracy on construction projects. District Overview Kiewit’s Central District operates in the central and south‑central regions of the United States, building heavy civil and transportation projects such as highways, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams, and tunnels.
Location Survey Crew Chiefs will support projects across the United States, with primary availability in CO, MT, WY, NM, ND, SD, NE, KS, MO, IA, and MN. The role requires travel to project sites and occasional visits to the district office in Lone Tree, Colorado.
Responsibilities
Implement project survey plans and lead field survey operations, managing daily activities of survey crews conducting boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction staking surveys.
Operate advanced equipment, including GPS, robotic total stations, 3D laser scanners, and data collectors to acquire high‑precision measurements; use CAD (AutoCAD, Civil3D, or MicroStation) to convert drawings into Trimble Business Center.
Interpret plans, legal documents, and construction drawings to guide fieldwork and maintain control networks within tight tolerances.
Review and validate field data for accuracy and completeness before submission to project teams; maintain accurate field notes and documentation.
Coordinate with project teams, ensuring alignment on scope, schedule, and deliverables, and help define how work plans will be executed in the field.
Uphold safety standards and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Qualifications
Willingness to work 50–60 hours per week, including weekends (overtime pay provided).
4+ years of field construction survey experience, preferably leading crews and with heavy civil projects (highway, bridge, power plants, water, tunneling).
Proficiency with Trimble Access/Business (or similar systems such as Leica or Topcon).
Strong understanding of construction staking, boundary analysis, and control networks, with experience running instruments and training others.
Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil3D, or MicroStation) and GIS platforms preferred.
LSIT or PLS certification is a plus; willingness to obtain certifications with Kiewit support.
Valid driver’s license and regional travel capability.
Comfortable with outdoor fieldwork in varied terrain and weather.
Physical ability to lift equipment and perform manual tasks; strong communication skills and work ethic.

Base Compensation $67,000 – $100,000 (Actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
