Base Pay Range $24.85/hr - $37.30/hr

Responsibilities Direct Patient Care

Understands the complexity of prescribing glasses for distance, intermediate, near, and astigmatism.

Proficiently performs Manifest Refraction and Refinement.

Completes the 4 steps of refinement: Sphere, Cylinder, Axis, Sphere.

Accurately assesses data from auto‑refraction and patient’s current glasses relative to vision and eye health.

Accurately uses the Jackson Cross Cylinder for axis refinement.

Fog vision and refine patient to obtain binocular balancing.

Presents the recommended Rx to the physician based on clinical findings and patient tolerances.

Accurately performs Goldmann Applanation Tonometry to obtain intraocular pressures.

Accurately assesses anterior chamber angle depth with the biomicroscope prior to dilating.

May perform fundus photography and/or Ascan biometry.

Indirect Patient Care

Consistently orders tests and assists the nurse or provider in communicating results per protocol.

Reports abnormal findings, patient complaints, or concerns to Physician, Team Lead, Supervisor, or Nurse when appropriate.

Triage, prioritizes, and completes messages, communicating information to patients timely.

Explains procedures and test results using language appropriate to patient’s level of understanding per protocols.

Acts as an advocate and liaison between patients, staff, physicians, and external customers.

Documentation

Provides consistent and accurate documentation of patient information, care and concerns in the EMR per policy.

Consistently completes vouchers, referrals, and requisitions with all appropriate information.

Completes all patient documentation within two full clinic business days after care and/or services per policy guidelines.

Telephone Communication

Answers the telephone promptly within three rings and transfers calls when appropriate.

Utilizes departmental and clinic scripting, restating information to ensure clarity and accuracy.

Displays a courteous, alert, and pleasant tone of voice, speaking clearly and relaxed.

Transfers calls when appropriate, staying on the line and announcing where and why the call was transferred.

Exceptions to announcing the call would include when transferring to an ACD agent.

Communicates effectively with internal and external customers.

Time Management

Consistently watches patient flow by keeping rooms clean, stocked, and available, maintaining adequate inventory.

Consistently checks equipment and trays for proper functioning and availability during busy times.

Demonstrates flexibility by performing additional duties under direction of licensed nursing staff or provider.

Education & Experience Required High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

3-5 years experience in Ophthalmology with proficiency in refracting and applanation tonometry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Good communication skills.

Ability to type a minimum of 20 wpm (preferred).

CPR Certification within 90 days.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Must successfully complete clinic-based training for all associates.

Ability to work with all levels of personnel.

Ability to work under stressful situationsli>

Frequent periods of extended standing and sitting.

Possible lifting and assisting of patients.

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.

For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, patient handling equipment should be used with at least one other associate, when available.
