We are seeking a full-time
Controller
to join our team. The Controller position is responsible for being a systems‑driven finance leader to refine, scale, and operationalize a financial infrastructure already in place across a complex, multi‑entity holding company. This role spans operating businesses (Haymarket, Ashbourne Events, Ashbourne Farms), private equity holdings, real estate investments, philanthropic entities, and personal LLCs under White Oak Investments. This strategic driven high‑trust, high‑impact role is critical because it directly impacts the organization’s financial health, stability, and decision‑making processes.
Essential Functions
Own monthly close and full‑cycle financial reporting across all entities.
Prepare GAAP‑compliant financial statements and operational dashboards with executive summaries and performance insights.
Maintain dual reporting frameworks for compliance and operational decision‑making (unit profitability, margins, burn rates).
Budgeting & Forecasting
Lead budgeting and forecasting in partnership with department leaders; monitor variances and recommend corrective actions.
Develop rolling forecasts, breakeven analyses, and unit‑level financial models.
Internal Controls & Systems
Establish and maintain internal controls, compliance processes, and financial policies.
Lead Sage Intacct reporting, consolidations, allocations, and system integrations (POS, payroll, inventory).
Integrate data streams from POS (Reveal), Payroll (Paycor), Inventory (InFlow), and other operational systems.
Build allocation and transfer‑pricing structures across entities.
Strategic Finance
Partner with executive leadership on capital planning, budgeting, tax and estate strategy, and risk management.
Coordinate with external advisors (Dean Dorton, Glenview Trust) and deliver clear executive reporting with actionable recommendations.
Entity Oversight
Oversee accounting and reporting for retail, hospitality, agricultural, real estate, and investment entities.
Manage intercompany activity, cash flow, reserves, and working capital.
We are looking for someone who possesses the following characteristics
Thrives working on multiple, simultaneous projects in a fast‑paced environment.
Highly analytical and technically strong, with the ability to solve complex problems within established standards and best practices.
Confident, decisive decision‑maker who exercises sound judgment and upholds quality, policy, and compliance standards.
Clear, concise communicator with a task‑focused, solutions‑oriented approach.
Leads through subject‑matter expertise, setting clear expectations and ensuring high‑quality execution; able to train and guide others in sound decision‑making when needed.
The ideal candidate has the following qualifications Education
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required. Advanced education in finance with emphasis on financial planning and analysis strongly preferred.
Experience
5–10+ years of experience in finance leadership across multi‑entity and multi‑sector environments (family office, private equity, or operating companies) including experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis required.
Experience leading a finance department required.
Experience with Sage Intacct is required for this role, including knowledge of custom reporting, multi‑entity management, and dashboard creation.
CPA or experience managing CPA relationships strongly preferred.
Exposure to estate planning, private equity structuring, or philanthropic capital models preferred.
Ability to lead change management processes, including transitioning traditional financial accounting methods and multiple systems into updated, manageable systems strongly preferred including skilled at automation, workflow optimization, and allocation modeling.
Industry knowledge of agriculture, retail/hospitality or similar is preferred.
Additional Information, physical/other requirements
Frequent sitting for long periods, occasional walking, stooping, bending, and reaching.
Frequent use of computer and standard office equipment for extended periods of time.
Frequent repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers including fine motor skills for tasks such as typing, handwriting, or using a mouse.
Occasional lifting and moving office supplies or packages up to 25 pounds.
Ability for close and distance vision for reading documents or viewing a computer screen for extended periods of time.
