Job Description Provides functions necessary for support, treatment, measurement, or supplementation of cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of the patient. Operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace the patient’s cardiopulmonary/circulatory functions. Provides ancillary techniques and procedures related to blood conservation, autotransfusion, or organ preservation. Communicates effectively and operates within specialized surgical so as to optimize performance of other team members and provide best possible patient outcome.

Preferred Qualifications Experience in pediatrics

Education Bachelor's degree and completion of perfusion training program

Certification Summary

American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Certification or completion within one year of eligibility

Current or provisional Georgia Composite State Board of Medical Examiners Clinical Perfusionist license

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Job Responsibilities

Safely performs and manages duties of a staff perfusionist upon prescription by a physician and in accordance with hospital policy.

Extracorporeal circulation/cardiopulmonary support.

Ventricular Assist Devices: Implant, explant, device parameters.

Blood conservation techniques/autotransfusion/autologous hemofiltration.

Myocardial preservation.

Administration of medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit.

Anticoagulation, physiologic parameters, blood gas and chemistry values, perfusion protocols or emergency procedures based on observed abnormalities or equipment failures.

Performs documentation associated with described duties.

Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings if applicable.

Supports Joint Commission readiness.
