Responsibilities
Perform routine and moderately complex maintenance work in buildings and construction trades.
Conduct inspections, adjustments, installations, and repairs of building systems, utilities, and stationary equipment.
Operate motorized equipment, requisition materials and supplies, and maintain work‑order records.
Communicate verbally and in writing with team members and supervisors.
Support operational needs by performing tasks such as vehicle operation, deliveries, and other incidental duties.
Train other personnel on proper repair and inspection procedures.
Operate heavy machinery, such as backhoes and forklifts, when necessary.
Participate in disaster response or continuity of operations activities as required.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
Attend work regularly and work specified shift schedules, including overtime and on‑call status when required.
Perform inspections and maintenance on building systems per recognized codes and standards (plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, painting, electrical).
Modernize, repair, and adapt building systems for new uses.
Select appropriate materials, calculate costs, and order parts to complete repairs.
Maintain uninterrupted campus operations and program services.
Use hand tools, power tools, and safety equipment.
Complete and maintain accurate records on work orders, projects, and requisitions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of building maintenance, mechanical systems, electrical distribution, plumbing, welding, HVAC, sanitation, and refrigeration.
Knowledge of industrial safety and fire regulations.
Skill in hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
Skill in preventive maintenance and building inspections.
Ability to perform maintenance, follow instructions, estimate materials, and apply proper methods.
Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, or sketches.
Ability to work independently or with a team.
Problem‑solving, decision‑making, and judgment skills.
Effective oral and written communication with team members.
Qualifications
High School diploma, GED, or relevant work experience in masonry, carpentry, painting, repair, or renovation.
Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it within 90 days of hire; out‑of‑state drivers must provide an original certified driving record.
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities).
Males aged 18–25 must register with the Selective Service.
Minimum age 18 for all applicants.
Additional Information Random drug testing applies to all State Supported Living Center employees. Flexibility in work hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required. Applicants must bring I‑9 documentation for E‑Verify on the first day of work.
