Property Accountant – Residential Property Management Firm

Location:
Union Square, Manhattan (5 days a week onsite)
Salary:
$95,000 - $105,000 per year + Benefits
Role Overview As a Property Accountant, you will serve as the financial steward for a dedicated portfolio of residential properties. You will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting process, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of monthly financial reporting. This is a critical role that bridges daily transactional oversight with high-level year‑end compliance and tax preparation.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting:
Lead the month‑end close process and prepare comprehensive internal and external financial statements for stakeholders.
General Ledger Management:
Analyze and reconcile G/L accounts, ensuring all activity for assigned properties is accurately reflected.
Cash Management:
Review daily banking transactions, record monthly wires and debt service payments, and perform bank reconciliations (including tenant security accounts).
Escrow & Reserves:
Monitor and record all activity related to mortgage escrows and reserve accounts.
Tax & Audit Readiness:
Compile audit and tax work-papers; record year‑end journal entries to facilitate the seamless preparation of audited statements and tax returns.
Regulatory Compliance:
Manage property tax compliance matters, including the filing of NYC RPIE forms, annual certiorari applications, and tax petitions.
Ad‑Hoc Support:
Provide analytical support and assist with special projects as needed to improve portfolio performance.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, specifically within the real estate industry.
Software Expertise:
Proficiency in Yardi is strictly required.
Technical Skills:
Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel and a strong understanding of residential accounting principles.
Industry Knowledge:
Experience with Tax Credit (LIHTC) residential properties is a significant plus.
Soft Skills:
Exceptional communication skills and a proactive approach to problem‑solving.
