Role Overview
Design, validate, and optimize production processes for large‑scale welded components and assemblies.
Work cross‑functionally with design, quality, operations, and project teams.
Support robotic, laser, and continuous‑improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, document, and maintain welding and fabrication processes for large assemblies (MIG, TIG, resistance, laser, robotic).
Program, support, and optimize ABB robotic welding systems (or equivalent).
Create and maintain WPS, PQRs, and weld qualifications per AWS, ASME, ISO standards.
Design weld sequences, fixture strategies, tooling to control distortion, residual stress, dimensional stability.
Troubleshoot and resolve weld defects using root‑cause analysis.
Collaborate with design engineering on geometry, tolerances, material selection for better weldability.
Provide hands‑on support and training on shop floor.
Partner with quality/inspection groups to utilize NDT feedback to close the loop on issues.
Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, Lean, Six Sigma).
Track, report, and analyze process metrics and propose improvements.
Support cost estimation and technical proposals.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Welding Engineering, or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years of process engineering in welding manufacturing large assembly environment.
Hands‑on expertise in multiple welding methods, including robotic and laser welding.
Experience programming and supporting ABB robotic systems (or equivalent).
Solid understanding of metallurgical behavior, material weldability, heat treatments/coatings.
Familiarity with CAD, CAM, weld simulation, or process modeling tools.
Strong working knowledge of AWS, ASME, ISO 9001/ISO 9100 or applicable standards.
Demonstrated capability to work cross‑functionally with design, operations, QA.
Proven track record in leading process improvements, cost reduction, quality enhancements.
Excellent communication, documentation, problem‑solving skills.
