Pay Range Base pay: $51,069 – $55,000 per year (subject to skills and experience).

Job Summary The Physical Plant Department invites applications for a full‑time, non‑exempt position. Under general supervision, the electrician performs electrical work at the journeyman level, installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment and facilities involving electrical circuits carrying less than 13,000 volts.

Responsibilities

Installs, diagnoses problems, and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications.

Reads and interprets plans, blueprints and specifications for construction or remodeling, and may recommend appropriate modifications or additions.

Connects and repairs power supply wires to machines and equipment, and the cables and wires between machines and equipment.

Performs maintenance and repairs to electrical equipment, including fluorescent and incandescent units, lighting fixtures, wiring, conduit boxes and tubing, switches, motors, generators, and climate control systems; prepares estimates of time, labor, and materials.

Prepares reports reflecting daily operations and project status; operates and maintains tools and equipment of the electrical trade; and cleans work area upon completion of project.

Provides guidance and training in electrical work to other maintenance personnel and may have lead responsibility for special projects.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge and skill in the techniques used in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and apparatus carrying less than 13,000 volts.

Thorough knowledge of basic mathematics: area, volume, weights and the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

Skill in the use and maintenance of electrical trade tools and equipment, including testing equipment such as ohmeters, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscopes.

Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations related to the electrical trade and electrical codes, and Underwriters Rules for wiring and installation.

Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

Ability to prepare summaries and reports required.

Ability to work in, on, around, over fixed equipment and machinery; work from lifts, ladders, scaffolding; manipulate heavy equipment, tools, and supplies, exerting force up to 70 lbs.

Ability to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, adverse weather or temperature conditions, and to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

Qualifications

Four years progressively responsible experience in the electrical trade.

Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job.

Must be able to communicate effectively and follow directions.

Valid Maryland non‑commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license may be required.

Possession of Maryland State certification as a licensed electrician may be required.

Physical Demands

Perform bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.

Work in adverse weather conditions.

Wear and work in personal protective equipment.

Operate a variety of equipment including office equipment.

Minimum Qualifications Four years progressively responsible experience in the electrical trade.
