HDR seeks a Senior Highway Engineer to join our Transportation Business Group, designing resilient highways and infrastructure that support economic vitality and public safety.
Responsibilities
Serve in the lead technical role in the detailed development of urban roadway design projects.
Perform quality assurance checks on major transportation projects on interstate and state highway systems.
Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity.
Assume some project management duties and interact with clients as needed.
Assume some project management duties as needed and have a fair amount of client interaction.
Supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
12+ years' experience in highway design.
PE in West Virginia.
Experience with urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout.
Hands‑on experience using Open Roads Designer (ORD), LDD, or other CAD design software.
Demonstrated hands‑on experience in all aspects of Highway/Roadway design projects with a focus on WVDOT projects.
MS Office knowledge.
Local candidates preferred.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
A minimum of 10 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design.
Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer PE or P.Eng).
Demonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teams.
Project management skills desirable.
Experience that includes urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans.
Must have coordinated survey, grading, drainage and utilities; layout of various site items is a plus.
