Job Overview The Wellness Director will support the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the guidance of the Executive Director and the Director of Healthy Living, the Wellness Director is responsible for the administration, leadership and innovation of the wellness department at the Downtown YMCA, including oversight of all wellness‑related programs and initiatives, personal training, wellness staff and upkeep of wellness equipment and facilities.

Compensation

Base pay range: $40,000 - $45,000 per year (actual pay based on skills and experience)

Responsibilities

Create a caring, friendly, fun and safe environment that provides opportunities for members to connect, develop relationships and achieve their wellness goals.

Provide direct leadership, development and oversight for all wellness‑related programs and initiatives, including but not limited to free member‑based wellness programs, personal training, group wellness and evidence‑based health programs.

Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct wellness staff and volunteers. Review and evaluate staff performance and develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

Provide fitness assessments and evaluations, equipment orientations/training and communication and coaching sessions with new and current members based on monthly and annual goals.

Maintain a clean and well‑maintained wellness center, with knowledge of equipment preventive maintenance and repairs.

Develop, manage and monitor the wellness and personal training operating budgets to meet or exceed fiscal objectives.

Model relationship‑building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

Build and maintain a personal client base as a personal trainer and/or while also building wellness staff face time with members and participants.

Assist the Director of Healthy Living in implementing effective programming that emphasizes personal service, member goal attainment and retention.

Assist the Director of Healthy Living in the implementation and delivery of signature wellness programs and quarterly member incentive programs.

Participate in the efforts and work of the Annual Support Campaign.

Provide monthly data reports of wellness/member activity within the facility.

Serve as a member of the Wellness cabinet as appropriate.

Follow the guidelines and policies of the Association at all times.

Education and Experience

Degree or pursuit of studies in Exercise Science, Health & Wellness field.

2 years’ experience in a wellness‑related field, or equivalent preferred.

Certifications

First Aid, CPR, AED & O2.

YMCA Principles of Healthy Lifestyles.

YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning.

Continuing Training Wellness Director must complete required Continuing Education Courses (CEC) to maintain certifications. Staff will remain current with all First Aid and CPR training.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in leadership of wellness programs.

Strong communication and coaching skills.
