General Summary In this role you will provide speech-language pathology services to patients impaired by cognitive/communicative or swallowing dysfunction, including assessment, treatment planning and implementation of treatment plans. Completes appropriate documentation and adheres to policies, procedures, applicable licensure laws, and current standards of clinical practice.

Your Responsibilities

Conduct speech-language pathology screenings and evaluations to determine patient cognitive/communicative and/or swallowing status using standardized tests and measures.

Develop and implement treatment plans to reach patients’ highest potential for independence consistent with the professional and ethical standards of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) in order to improve and maintain function and achieve patients’ highest potential for independence.

Assess effects of treatment on an ongoing basis and modify the patient’s plan to achieve maximum benefit.

Check, instruct, assign and review the work of CFY as assigned and in accordance with ASHA standards.

Confere with physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program and integrate speech therapy treatment with other aspects of patient’s health care.

Provide documentation to maintain quality of the medical record as it relates to accuracy, continuity of care and reimbursement guidelines.

Participate, as requested, in patient and family care conferences.

Educate and instruct patient and family/caregiver(s) in treatment procedures to be continued when not in therapy or as a home exercise program.

Participate in Quality Assurance activities as directed by Agency Administrator, and/or site-specific Director of Therapy.

Promote current standards of clinical practice through participation in internal and external continuing education, in-service programs and certifications sponsored by the agency.

Participate in new program development to expand the clinical services of the rehabilitation agency.

Participate in agency meetings and additional activities as directed to facilitate effective agency operations.

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program

ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence

Licensure as required by the State of Michigan
