$70,000.00/yr - $100,000.00/yr
We are seeking a detail‑oriented and experienced Heavy Civil Estimator with expertise in excavation, asphalt, concrete, and related civil scopes. The ideal candidate will analyze bid specifications, review drawings, and prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for heavy civil and infrastructure projects. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously, and a proactive approach to identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities
Bid Administration:
Prepare and maintain plan reproduction and all bid documentation
Solicit bids from subcontractors and vendors to ensure complete coverage
Prepare bid packages and distribute addenda or updates
Obtain competitive pricing through resourceful sourcing
Submit all bids and budgets accurately and on time
Project Knowledge:
Review bid requirements and clarify project details as needed
Understand complete project scope for assigned trades and generate RFIs or clarifications when necessary
Perform comprehensive bid‑day analysis and subcontractor scoping
Build and maintain accurate bid lists with qualified subcontractors
Provide value‑engineering options and minimize exclusions through detailed review
Project Turnover:
Transfer approved budgets into company systems within one week of award
Conduct handoff meetings with Project Management, identifying key challenges and considerations
Review drawings, job costs, and subcontractor/vendor status with leadership
Complete all kickoff and compliance documentation
Subcontractor Award & Management:
Verify scope accuracy before issuing subcontract awards
Award and release subcontracts and material orders promptly
Communicate schedules, expectations, and project information to subcontractors
Prequalify new subcontractors to ensure they meet company standards
Requirements
Strong understanding of heavy civil and highway construction methods
Highly organized, detail‑driven, and accurate
Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously
Proficiency with Outlook, Excel, Word, Viewpoint, and HCSS HeavyBid/HeavyJob
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong leadership, negotiation, and decision‑making abilities
Proven ability to support on‑time, on‑budget project delivery
Preferred Skills
Experience with AutoCAD or Carlson takeoff software
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, OR
8-12 years of heavy civil, highway, or airport construction experience, OR
Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
