RCS-CPT Coding Expert
– Indiana University Health Days M-F, Remote
This position exists to provide accurate and timely clinical data for billing and optimal reimbursement, quality assessment, comparative databases, physician profiling, and administrative purposes. The role is responsible for physician coding, outpatient facility coding, and rectifying pre-bill coding related edits and denials.
Key Responsibilities CPT Coding Experts review medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM diagnoses and CPT/HCPCS procedure codes for surgical and observation encounters. They ensure documentation supports all coded services, apply correct modifiers, and follow official coding guidelines, NCCI edits, and payer rules. The role includes validating APC impacts, preventing denials, and meeting productivity and accuracy standards.
Must Haves
Facility Coding Experience
Other Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent.
RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, COC, or CPC credential required. Acceptable credentials or experience may vary depending on type of role (physician coding, facility coding, pre-bill coding edits).
Ability to read, understand and interpret medical records and other treatment documentation.
High level of interpersonal, problem solving, and analytic skills.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with others.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
