Position Overview The Assistant Manager of the Fire Protection Review team oversees fire protection responsibilities as part of daily duties. Reviews development permit plans to ensure compliance with rules and regulations with the Harris County Permits Group.
Responsibilities
Provide supervision for the review of fire protection systems applications and enforcement of the Harris County Fire Code.
Investigate and respond to inquiries from the public and from permit applicants, and implement the resolution of problems.
Coordinate with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office and other county agencies.
Requirements Education
High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
Experience
Minimum of six (6) years of experience in fire protection design and construction or local/state application of the International Fire Code.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read construction drawings and topographical maps.
Good mathematical skills and must be able to communicate orally and deal effectively with the general public.
Communicate rules and regulations to the public, both in writing and verbally.
Perform daily functions with a minimum of supervision.
Properly supervise personnel.
Convey detailed instructions relative to the issuance of permits.
Perform data entry of the requirements related to the issuance of permits.
Interfacing with the Compliance Coordinator of the Permit Groups through verbal and written communication.
Stand for sustained periods of time to discuss permit requirements with the public.
Lifting maps, plans, and specifications in the review process for permit issuance. Standing or crouching may be necessary during the review process.
Preferences
Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the job duties.
Experience with International Building Code standards is preferred.
Knowledge, Skill, & Abilities (Preferences)
Knowledge of the International Building Code and/or the International Fire Code.
Certifications by the International Code Council.
Microsoft Office software.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
Full-Time | Regular | 40 hours per week.
Monday – Friday.
Employees are expected to work a five-day work week comprised of 8-hour days with fixed starting and ending times.
Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.
This position is Safety Sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
Salary : Commensurate with experience, based on 26 pay periods.
Physical Demands and Environmental Exposure May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event). This position requires bending, stooping, and lifting up to 25 lbs., as well as frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs. The physical demands described here are representative of those required of an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
