Associate Scientist – Proteomics University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC is hiring a Full‑Time Associate Scientist to work onsite at the UHealth campus in Miami, FL.

Job Summary The Associate Scientist, SOM supports the University’s research goals by performing laboratory experiments, method development, and analytical procedures in proteomics.

Core Job Functions

Contribute to basic and applied research activities including authorship of scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent preparations.

Publish in refereed journals in collaboration with department leadership or independently.

Supervise research employees and non‑exempt staff.

Write extramural proposals with approval of senior managing staff.

Create and conduct experiments and analyze results.

Work with other researchers to use and develop end products.

Provide ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researchers, supervisors, and other relevant staff.

Request or acquire equipment and supplies for assigned project(s).

Apply for grants to continue research and prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations.

Adhere to University and unit‑level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.

Core Qualifications Education: Doctorate degree – PhD required.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

Learning Agility: Ability to learn and adapt to new procedures, technologies, and protocols.

Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others.

Technical Proficiency: Skilled in office software and relevant computer applications.

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Department Specific Functions

Primary responsibility for the use of a new Orbitrap Ascend Tribrid LC‑MS instrument for proteomic applications.

Manage inventory of lab consumables, including ordering, receiving, and storage.

Prepare protein samples from a wide range of specimens (e.g., cells, tissues, biofluids, SDS‑Page gels).

Implement both bottom‑up and top‑down proteomic approaches.

Perform global proteome profiling by data‑dependent (DDA) and data‑independent (DIA) acquisition mass spectrometry; detect post‑translational modifications.

Quantify proteins by label‑free and stable‑isotope labeling strategies (e.g., SILAC, TMT).

Conduct structural proteomics such as cross‑linking and pull‑down experiments.

Analyze single‑cell proteomics.

Determine intact protein molecular weight.

Use proteomics software (e.g., Proteome Discoverer, MASCOT) for data analysis.

Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Orbitrap Ascend Tribrid Mass Spectrometry and other laboratory equipment.

Assess experimental results and troubleshoot methods and instruments to optimize protocols.

Collaborate efficiently with technicians, graduate students, post‑docs, PIs, laboratory director, and colleagues.

Education & Experience Ph.D. in Science or Engineering (Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biology, Chemistry, or related field).

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes

5 years of related experience with mass spectrometry instruments, including 2 years in proteomics applications.

Hands‑on operating and/or maintaining LC‑MS instruments and supporting equipment.

Strong interest in handling, processing, and analyzing high‑throughput datasets.

Motivation to continually develop skills and expertise.

Work independently and as a team member while organizing the proteomics core.

Excellent analytical, communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.

Established track record of publications and demonstrated ability to complete projects.

Capability to learn complex tasks with instruction and to use experience for new techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in quantitative proteomics, single‑cell proteomic analysis, or global proteome profiling.

Previous hands‑on operation of Thermo Tribrid Orbitrap LC‑MS Systems (e.g., Fusion, Eclipse, Ascend).
