Job Summary The EPRI Overhead Transmission team performs industry‑leading research and development (R&D) that enables and informs overhead transmission owners and operators in designing and managing their transmission network effectively. This R&D focuses on transmission line assets across their entire life cycle, from specification to removal.

We are looking for an Overhead Transmission Student employee to support technical staff in implementing tasks under their guidance and supervision. The position will be based at the EPRI Charlotte Office, part‑time during the school semester and transitioning to full‑time hours during the summer.

Key Job Functions

Conduct research searches and literature surveys.

Perform laboratory experiments and evaluations under the guidance of technical staff.

Analyze technical information with guidance from technical staff.

Assist project managers and technical staff in implementing project tasks.

Education Level and Years of Experience

Pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.

The Ideal Candidate

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Outstanding problem‑solving and analytical skills.

Ability to convey technical results effectively to other technical staff.

Self‑motivated with excellent time‑management skills.

Hourly Rate Range for Student Positions

Undergraduate: $16–29 per hour.

Master’s: $25–31 per hour.

Ph.D: $27–34 per hour.

These ranges are estimates and the actual hourly rate may vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, abilities, internal equity, and market data. The rate may also be adjusted based on geographic location.

Benefits As an EPRI Student, you will not participate in EPRI’s benefit programs, which include health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave (except as required by law), and holiday pay. However, you are eligible for Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation Insurance.

For student positions that require relocation to an EPRI office, relocation assistance is not provided and the student will be responsible for covering all relocation costs and expenses.

E‑Verify EPRI participates in E‑Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA). EPRI uses the system to check the work status of new hires by comparing information from the employee’s I‑9 form against SSA and Department of Homeland Security databases.
