Savage is currently hiring for a Maintenance Mechanic who will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment and controls for the coal handling operations. The Mechanic will assist Operations to provide coal to the customer’s bunkers on a daily basis.

Schedule: 4‑10 hrs per day, either Sun‑Wed or Wed‑Sat 6 am to 4 pm
What You’ll Be Doing
Perform daily inspections of equipment for safety, mechanical, and electrical deficiencies
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical problems on the facility and mobile equipment
Troubleshoot and repair electrical, PLC, and field device systems
Ensure all work is performed in compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
Partner with the Maintenance Supervisor to learn and utilize the CMMS system for corrective and preventative maintenance record‑keeping
Actively participate in Savage’s safety programs
Perform other general maintenance duties as required (e.g., changing conveyor rollers, greasing)
Collaborate with team members outside of maintenance (operations, off‑site maintenance personnel, coordinators, and management) to ensure overall success of the operation
Demonstrate a solid understanding of customer service
Clear a customer‑required criminal background check
What We Need From You
High school diploma or GED
2‑5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial setting
Understanding of electrical, instrumentation, VFD drives, and field devices
Knowledge and practical experience with DCS in an industrial setting (preferred)
Understanding of the industrial process and how components interact (conveyors, train unloading system, crushers, feeders, pumps, etc.)
Willingness to learn and an urgency in performing tasks and duties
Experience in material handling operations is preferred
Welding skills and experience with heavy equipment are a plus
Follow all policies and procedures outlined by Savage
Willingness to work Monday‑Friday, overtime, weekends, and on‑call as needed in all weather conditions
Physical Requirements
Position works primarily in an outdoor environment with minimal to high concentrations of coal dust
Work in extreme weather conditions such as wind, heat, and cold
Ability and willingness to perform essential physical functions, including:
Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders
Lift up to 50 pounds; lifting or moving objects over 50 pounds must be accomplished using extra manpower or machine‑assisted lifting techniques
Wearing proper personal protective equipment as required
Passing annual OSHA respirator fit test and pulmonary function tests
