Job Summary:
This position provides primary care and treatment to a group of patients in a clinic or hospital unit. The role may include access and administration of medications within scope of practice and in accordance with State Law.
Responsibilities
Assesses the physical condition of patients through physical examinations and medical histories.
Formulates medical plans and prognoses based on patient condition.
Consults with physicians regarding patient health‑care plans and treatment.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient clinical problems and health‑care needs.
Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other therapeutic treatments and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
Complies with medical records policies regarding complete and accurate documentation of patient care; initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
Participates in quality improvement activities.
Counsels patients, families, and significant others about health and illness; promotes health maintenance.
Evaluates, plans, implements, and re‑evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures.
Problem solving: demonstrates clinical competence and in‑depth knowledge of specialty area.
Demonstrates leadership, teaching, research, and communication skills.
Provides care appropriate to the population served.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in ACLS, BLS, NRP, or ATLS (may be required by department or privileging criteria).
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
Master’s degree in Nursing (or equivalent) and National Certification from a nationally accredited examination.
Compliance with UHPPM 1‑56 credentialing and privileging requirements at the time of hire.
Complete immunization according to CDC standards and hospital policy (limited exemptions for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs).
Demonstrated potential to perform the essential functions outlined in the job description.
