Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Trademark Assistant is responsible for preparing and filing trademark application via the USPTO and the Madrid Protocol (plus draft instructions to foreign counsel for filing of trademarks applications); prepare and file electronic prosecution and maintenance documents in the USPTO including responses to office actions, statements of use, extensions of time, petitions to divide, renewal applications, declarations of use, declarations of incontestability, excusable nonuse declarations and any other related trademark filings. The Trademark Assistant must support firm attorneys in connection with client trademark portfolios and prepare trademark portfolio reports/charts based on Firm database software and manage Firm docket/monitor U.S. and foreign trademark deadlines. Required Qualifications
Minimum of five (5) years of intellectual property experience working as a trademark paralegal supporting a trademark practice; law firm experience preferred. Excellent research and writing skills; excellent understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and iManage. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with attorneys and support staff at every level. Proficient with png and jpeg images. Supervisory experience in an administrative capacity supporting a trademark practice is preferred. Strong knowledge of U.S. trademark prosecution procedures and trademark office rules and forms, trademark treaties, and foreign trademark prosecution requirements. Strong working knowledge of the USPTO TEAS platform. Jones Day offers competitive salaries and benefits to all employees. Compensation is determined upon the market in which the position is located, the responsibilities of the position, the experience and skills of the applicant, and other job-related factors.
