Deputy County Treasurer – Property Tax Specialist Allegan County Government is seeking an experienced individual to assist in all functions of the Property Tax Section of the Department. The role involves providing information regarding tax matters to the public, issuing and collecting fees for dog licenses, and processing and maintaining tax records.

Job Summary Assist in all functions of the Property Tax Section of the Department, provide information on tax matters to the public, issue and collect fees for dog licenses, and perform a variety of activities related to processing and maintaining tax records.

Starting Wage $26.41 per hour (full-time).

Responsibilities and Duties

Work in all functions of the Property Tax Section of the Department, maintaining and advising on the Delinquent Tax program, Tax program, and Principal Residence program.

Prepare and finalize settlement with Townships, Cities and Villages in the county. Collect money throughout the year from all units for County Operating Tax, State Education Tax, County Roads, County Seniors and Drains.

Perform various duties related to the tax reversion process, review all forfeited parcels, add documentation gathered from contacts and visits to each file, perform property visits, inspect and photograph the property to ascertain occupancy status.

Collect tax money for Delinquent Property, Current Property Taxes, Principal Resident Exemptions and other receipts as needed. Account for all daily receipts. File and record as required.

Process Principal Residence Exemption changes and value changes ordered by the Board of Review and Department of Treasury.

Maintain the County Dog Program and notarize affidavits for lost dog tags.

Give certifications for Quit Claim Deeds, Warranty Deeds and Land Contracts by mapping legal descriptions and checking taxes and ownership before recording. Notarize documents at the Register of Deeds.

Manage and maintain status on all bankruptcy cases filed for property taxes in Allegan County. Contact attorneys and bankruptcy trustees when needed.

Manage and maintain the Tax Millage Certification Listing for Allegan County.

Perform various other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Five (5) years of governmental clerical support required.

Previous supervisory experience preferred.
