Position Title Attorney I – IV, Office of Policy and Docket Management, Division: Office of Policy and Docket Management (OPDM), Section: Commission Counsel – Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT).

Overview Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) regulates electric, telecommunication and water & sewer utilities within Texas. The Commission Advising Section within OPDM supports the Commissioners by providing legal research, analysis and decision-making in contested cases. The Attorney role assists the Commissioners with drafting and reviewing Commission orders, writing recommendation decisions and offering legal advice on contested cases. This position offers direct exposure to regulatory decision‑making, meaningful independent work and the chance to develop administrative law expertise in a fast‑paced environment.

Salary Range Monthly Salary (Base):

Attorney I : $77,175 – $89,250

Attorney II : $88,200 – $99,750

Attorney III : $99,225 – $115,500

Attorney IV : $110,250 – $143,268

Salary will increase 6% upon hire. Candidates with CAPPS ID # 00051397 are still being considered.

Minimum Qualifications

Attorney I : Accredited law school graduate (LLB or JD); licensed in Texas and eligible to practice.

Attorney II : Accredited law school graduate (LLB or JD); licensed in Texas and eligible to practice; minimum 2 years of post‑licensure legal work experience.

Attorney III : Accredited law school graduate (LLB or JD); licensed in Texas and eligible to practice; minimum 3 years of post‑licensure legal work experience, preferably in utility regulation or administrative law.

Attorney IV : Accredited law school graduate (LLB or JD); licensed in Texas and eligible to practice; minimum 4 years of post‑licensure legal work experience, preferably in utility regulation or administrative law.

Preferred Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in math, finance, accounting, engineering, or English with strong math proficiency.

Administrative law or litigation experience.

Work Schedule Standard Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. New hires may request alternative schedules or telecommuting after 30‑90 days of employment, subject to managerial approval.
