Senior Avionics Systems Engineer
Location: NAS Patuxent River, MD
Security Clearance Requirement: Secret with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
Telework Eligible: No, work will be performed 100% on-site.
What You’ll Do As the Senior Avionics Systems Engineer, you will support work within NAVAIR's Airborne Strategic Command, Control and Communications Program Office, PMA-271. You will work closely with the Integrated Product Team (IPT) engineers to drive development, acquisition, certification, modernization, and sustainment of critical mission systems.
Key Responsibilities
Perform research and evaluation to support certification for essential avionics systems for PMA-271 platforms, specifically SATCOM, HF, VLF, UHF, and IP Line-of-Sight throughout all acquisition and sustainment phases.
Direct the development and execution of cosite mitigation strategies and Simultaneous Operations (SIMOP) plans for diverse communication bands.
Guide the execution and sustainment of avionics Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) initiatives for PMA-271.
Create, update, and monitor Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&M) essential for the certification efforts of HF, COMSEC, and SATCOM systems.
Direct and oversee all avionics certification activities, ensuring alignment with both mission readiness objectives and compliance requirements.
Review and provide guidance related to requirements definition, analysis, verification, and certification, alongside architecture design.
Manage the creation and quality of engineering documentation and technical artifacts.
Lead Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) events and Program Management Reviews (PMRs).
Conduct functional analysis, timeline analysis, and comprehensive trade studies to translate customer requirements into practical, cost-effective solutions.
Present technical progress and findings, delivering actionable recommendations to NAVAIR program office stakeholders.
Position requires up to 25% travel.
Requirements What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, or Computer Science.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant NAVAIR Systems Engineering experience within a NAVAIR Program Management Activity (PMA).
Hands‑on experience in the NAVAIR environment creating and maturing Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) through technical review and approval processes.
Preferred Qualifications
10 years of experience leading new development or modifications to existing mission avionics systems—including drafting Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and awarding development contracts, through Engineering Development, Review & Approval Process (EDRAP), to full flight clearance integration and production contract execution.

Security Clearance Requirement This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance. Selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Salary Range The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $160,000 – $180,000 annually, commensurate with an individual’s experience, qualifications, and skill set. ASEC is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation.
