About The Role
Techno is expanding its construction management team in anticipation of a major coastal and water infrastructure initiative on Staten Island. We are seeking an
Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE)
to support field operations on a complex program focused on strengthening essential facilities and improving long-term system reliability in a coastal environment.
This assignment offers the opportunity to be involved from early construction through key milestones on a large-scale infrastructure effort with lasting community impact. As part of the on-site leadership team, you will play an integral role in overseeing construction activities, supporting quality assurance, and helping drive safe, efficient project delivery.
What You'll Do
Assist the Resident Engineer with daily field oversight, helping coordinate construction activities and maintain alignment with technical and operational requirements
Conduct routine inspections of civil, structural, utility, electrical, and water-related construction work to verify compliance with approved plans and specifications
Observe contractor means and methods, sequencing, and productivity, and proactively communicate potential risks, delays, or constructability concerns
Prepare comprehensive daily reports, inspection logs, photographs, and progress documentation reflecting on-site activities
Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, work plans, and proposed changes, providing field-based input to support timely reviews
Track quantities and assist with verification of completed work in support of payment applications
Participate in coordination meetings with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders, offering field insights and status updates
Support issue resolution by coordinating with design teams, construction staff, and the Resident Engineer to develop practical, timely solutions
Maintain organized project records, including inspection files, correspondence, logs, and documentation systems
Monitor and enforce safety requirements, environmental controls, and permit conditions across active work areas
Assist with punch list development, milestone inspections, and close-out activities as construction progresses
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline
3–7 years of experience supporting construction oversight, inspection, or field engineering on large civil, utility, or water infrastructure projects
Working knowledge of civil construction, utilities, electrical infrastructure, and environmental or coastal work
Strong field presence with the ability to operate effectively in an active construction environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail in documentation
Proficiency with construction drawings, specifications, and field reporting tools
Bonus: Prior experience supporting NYCDEP capital projects or working under NYCDEP standards and procedures is a strong plus
EIT preferred; PE a plus

The expected salary range for this role in the New York City Metropolitan Area is $85 - $95 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process
