About the role Techno is assembling a field leadership team in advance of an upcoming wastewater infrastructure improvement project on Staten Island, focused on modernizing critical headworks systems at an active treatment facility. We are seeking an
Assistant Resident Engineer
to support construction oversight beginning Q1 2026.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a technically complex program involving major mechanical and civil upgrades within an operating facility. The Assistant Resident Engineer will play a key role in supporting field coordination, quality control, and compliance while helping ensure construction activities are executed safely and efficiently with minimal operational disruption.
What you’ll do
Support the Resident Engineer with daily oversight of construction activities related to headworks improvements, including pump systems, screening equipment, and associated civil work
Perform regular field inspections of mechanical, civil, structural, and utility installations to confirm compliance with approved plans, specifications, and standards
Monitor contractor sequencing, work methods, and coordination within an active facility environment
Document daily site activities through inspection reports, photographs, and detailed field notes
Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and contractor work plans, providing constructability and field-based input
Track quantities and assist with verification of completed work for progress payments
Participate in coordination meetings with contractors, engineers, operations staff, and project stakeholders
Assist in identifying and resolving field issues by coordinating with design teams, contractors, and the Resident Engineer
Maintain organized project documentation, including inspection records, logs, correspondence, and digital files
Monitor compliance with safety protocols, environmental controls, and permit requirements
Support milestone inspections, punch list development, system testing, and close-out activities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
3–7 years of experience in construction oversight, inspection, or field engineering roles
Experience supporting mechanical and civil construction within wastewater, water, or utility facilities strongly preferred
Familiarity with pumps, screening systems, and process-related infrastructure is a plus
Ability to work full-time in the field within an active treatment facility environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
Proficiency reading construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
Bonus: Prior experience on NYCDEP projects or familiarity with NYCDEP standards, procedures, and capital programs is a strong plus
