Job Summary
RIT's Facilities Management Services department is looking for a dynamic Maintenance Mechanic II to join the FMS Engineering Services team. This role involves corrective and preventive maintenance on all interior and exterior building components, including plumbing, natural gas service, walls, floors, ceilings, doors, locks, hardware, signage, painting, carpet replacement, roofs, windows, and brick. Responsibilities
Provide immediate response to building maintenance related urgencies such as major water leaks, broken/hanging glass, natural gas odor, electrical hazards, downed outdoor light poles, and wildlife removal. Contain the situation, determine and implement corrective actions, and notify appropriate personnel. Perform skilled trade services and general repairs, including plumbing, carpentry, door and hardware, painting, drywall repair, windows and screens, roofing, masonry, hang banners, tile work, furniture repair, steam and natural gas piping, and window shade installation and repair. Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on building systems such as plumbing, doors, glazing, roofing, furniture, fountains, storm‑water systems, swimming pool operations, pumps, and filters. Assist the Maintenance Manager with coordinating maintenance projects, meeting clients, scheduling repairs, coordinating contractors, and ensuring vendor performance per FMS guidelines. Utilize the Work Order system to create, update, and close work orders, and use electronic tools such as CMMS, Purchase Requisition, and e‑mail. Maintain stockroom supply levels and keep the room orderly and clean. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
High School diploma or GED. 2–3 years’ experience in building maintenance in a commercial, industrial, or college campus setting with proven expertise in two or more of the following skilled areas: plumbing, millwright (doors and hardware), painting and drywall, flooring, roofing, masonry, or carpentry. Skills
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude in one or more skilled trade areas and ability to learn basics of plumbing, pipefitting, painting and drywall, door and window repair, and low voltage electrical systems. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to safely operate hand and power tools relevant to building trades. Ability to work from ladders up to 30 feet, including scaffolds and 40‑foot man‑lifts. Can lift 50 lbs. Consistently work safely following OSHA, DEC, and EPA standards and regulations. Proficient with Microsoft Outlook and CMMS. Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently, take initiative, plan, prioritize, and execute repairs. Commitment to open, honest, respectful customer and colleague relationships. Ability to work in confined spaces, adverse weather, and environments with dust, noise, and unpleasant odors while using appropriate PPE. Note
