About This Position The City of Phoenix seeks dedicated employees with extensive journey-level experience in maintenance, repair, alteration, and remodeling of buildings, offices, houses, and other facilities. Assignments involve multiple trades: rough carpentry, cabinet making, plumbing, routine electrical or welding work, roofing, painting, drywall finishing, concrete/masonry work, and locksmithing.

Building Maintenance Worker*Plumber
Responsibilities
Maintain, repair, and alter plumbing systems and other building systems.
Perform rough carpentry, drywall repairs, painting, and other general building maintenance tasks.
Determine appropriate work methods, tools, and materials for assignments.
Work independently or as part of a team, and may serve as a crew leader for specified projects.
Ideal Candidate
Expertise in installation and repair of plumbing systems and fixtures, domestic water supply systems, pumps, and piping.
Proficiency in installing, repairing, and maintaining various types of pipes for water, gas, and waste systems.
Understanding of local plumbing codes and regulations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to act swiftly in emergencies such as burst pipes or severe leaks.
Minimum Qualifications
For Building Maintenance Worker*U2:
Three years of skilled‑level experience in building maintenance and repair, with proficiency in at least two building trades, and completion of an acceptable apprenticeship program; OR six years of trades experience, three at skilled level, with proficiency in at least two trades.
For Building Maintenance Worker*Plumber:
Same experience as U2, plus backflow certification (or similar plumbing certification) required at time of placement.
Preferred Qualifications
Construction, commercial tenant improvement, residential or commercial plumbing installation and repair, managing vendors or subcontractors, building codes, finish plumbing.
Pay Range
Building Maintenance Worker*U2: Pay Range $24.93–$38.68 per hour; Hiring Range $24.93–$31.82 per hour.
Building Maintenance Worker*Plumber: Pay Range $27.49–$40.61 per hour; Hiring Range $27.49–$35.08 per hour.
Benefits
