Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the financial operations of the Foundation by ensuring accurate and timely accounting, reporting, and compliance. This position is responsible for a broad range of accounting functions, including gift reconciliation, fee calculations, financial reporting, tax support, and coordination with legal counsel on complex gifts. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, collaborative, and committed to the Foundation’s mission.
Key Responsibilities Accounting and Reconciliation
Reconcile incoming gifts, including credit card transactions
Reconcile all cash accounts in Operating fund
Calculate and record administrative fees
Monitor and clear suspense accounts
Accrue and track approved multi-year grants
Accrue and track pledges and calculate pledge discount
Track conditional grants
Track recoverable grants
Budgeting and Reporting
Support the annual budget process, prepare supporting schedules and analysis
Prepare monthly budget to actual reports for departments and leadership
Update quarterly financial dashboards for internal stakeholders
Maintain internal consolidated financial statements
Prepare quarterly and semi-annual donor statements for mailing/emailing
Prepare financial statements for Family Support Organizations
Calculate annual endowment spending in accordance with policy
Compliance and Tax Support
Prepare audit schedules and assist with annual audit
Prepare supporting schedule for IRS form 990, 990T and related state filings
Files miscellaneous tax forms and Secretary of State SI-100
Assist with accounting and tax work for Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTS) and Charitable Gift Annuities (CGAs)
Client & Gift Management
Track and report on new clients and new gifts
Collaborate with General Counsel on accounting for complex gifts and bequests.
Prepare IRS Form 8282 for complex gifts
Insurance & Administrative Support
Assist with corporate insurance renewals and documentation
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferable in nonprofit or foundation settings
Skills
Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting
Experience with fund accounting and endowment management
Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools
Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets
Excellent analytical, organization, and communication skills.

Working Conditions Some local or Los Angeles area travel may be required to setup meetings and participate in events.
Flexible work environment with hybrid work schedule.
Salary: $100,000 – $110,000 depending on skill sets, years of experience, training, certifications, and degrees earned. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range unless they exceed most of the job qualifications.
