Under the general direction of the Hartsfield‑Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA) Airport Operations (AOC) Manager and the AOC EMD Supervisor, the Airport Communications Dispatcher III is responsible for performing all airport dispatching functions for emergency and non‑emergency personnel and for providing emergency medical instructions when required. The AOC includes several integrated operations: an emergency 9‑1‑1 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) servicing Police, Fire/EMS, and support for the Department of Aviation’s other divisions of Security, Operations, and Maintenance.

Responsibilities

Operate related technology and respond to radio, telephone, email, alarm, CCTV, and other data transmitted into the AOC facility.

Provide Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) instruction based on the approved EMD program for the airport.

Field calls that require EMD instruction and triage the calls to prioritize the handling of emergency medical incidents.

Participate in the work of a call taker, dispatcher, and perform other duties as assigned.

Complete all processes and documentation for EMD calls as required by the EMD program.

Participate in required training to maintain certification as an EMD Dispatcher for the airport.

Operate the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to track, record, and prioritize incidents and incident responses.

Provide ongoing communications and coordination support to both emergency and non‑emergency operations in the field as required.

Act decisively when incident conditions and/or airport staff or facilities are endangered.

Coordinate communications with off‑airport responders to airport incidents.

Staff and support the activation of the EOC as directed.

Conduct detailed and comprehensive briefings to relief telecommunicators before leaving their workstation(s).

Provide quality customer service on all interactions with the public and AOC‑supported operations.

Articulate, promote, and support the mission and vision of the Emergency Management division; provide answers and solutions for emergency and non‑emergency requests for information and services; review and train to maintain current levels of operations knowledge; stay abreast of continuous system changes; enhance knowledge and learn new skills; provide input to enhance and improve department services to our internal and external customers.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the AOC Manager, AOC EMD Supervisor, and/or Emergency Management Director.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Use established operating procedures to determine severity of emergency events and an appropriate course of action.

Understand EMD processes and procedures and implement them in daily operational call‑taking processes.

Work under stressful conditions, analyze and manage situations, and make rapid decisions.

Prioritize multiple tasks and work independently as well as a team member.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Communicate orally and in writing.

Respond to emergency call situations at any time.

Read, write, and speak fluent English.

Report to work during inclement weather.

Develop and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with fellow employees, representatives from other departments, and supervisors.

Use keyboard devices, computers, and communications equipment; sit for extended periods.

Type a minimum of 30 words per minute with 95% accuracy.

Troubleshoot equipment failures and problems.

Knowledge of personal computers and commonly used software such as Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Office, Outlook, and other mapping, database and IP systems.

Minimum/Required Qualifications

High School diploma or GED.

Flexibility to work various shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Education & Experience

Minimum of 7 years of prior 9‑1‑1 communications dispatcher experience.

Minimum of 4 years of prior Emergency Medical Dispatch experience.

Georgia POST certification.

CPR certified.

Licensures and Certifications

Obtain EMD certification within the timeframe specified by the AOC manager; maintain certification during employment.

Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) certification within 6 months of hire.
