GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Performs law enforcement work relating to animal control; does related work as required, and any other duties assigned by the City Manager or the Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Patrols City in pick-up truck with animal cage; picks up stray animals and transports them to pound
Maintains contact with headquarters by using two-way radio set
Disposes of animals according to city ordinances and policies
Signs affidavits on violations of City ordinances pertaining to animal control
Picks up and buries dead animals in the City
Impounds, feeds, and cares for animals
Keeps close surveillance over suspected rabid animals confined in pound
Maintains the City Pound
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Good knowledge of the City streets and City ordinances regarding the confinement of animals
Good knowledge of the symptoms of rabies
Ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public
Ability to prepare activity reports
Ability to operate a light truck and two-way radio
Ability to handle large and/or vicious animals
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public
Requires the ability to stand, sit, walk and drive for substantial periods of time
Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds maximum; frequent lifting and/or carrying up to 25 pounds
Must be able to use hands and fingers to operate equipment such as firearms, tranquilizer guns, and traps
Some experience in the care and handling of animals and completion of high school
Valid driver’s license is required
