The City of Attleboro Police Department seeks an Animal Control Officer who, Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police, and the direct supervision of the Senior Animal Control Officer, the Animal Control Officer enforces City and state laws relative to animal control and maintains City animal shelter.
Duties include: Performs general maintenance and custodial duties at the shelter assuring that animals are fed and their cages are clean. Responsible for the safe capture and control of domestic and wild animals. May use firearms or tranquilizer weapons in emergency situations. Transports animals to veterinarians and other locations as necessary. Answers inquiries and provides information to the public. Must serve in an on-call rotation and be available to respond to after-hours animal control emergencies in a timely manner. Performs related duties as required.
Requires high school graduation with at least one year of experience in animal control and shelter operations or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts Firearms License, Class A, Certificate in Animal Control and Valid driver’s license required. Pre-rabies vaccine required. Thorough knowledge of animal handling procedures and practices. Thorough knowledge of City and state laws concerning animal control and the ability to read and interpret such laws. Must be familiar with computers and word processing and spreadsheet software.
