Geospatial Analyst - Disaster Operations & Analytics
We are seeking a
Geospatial Analyst
to support the National Business Emergency Operations Center (NBEOC), a FEMA‑supported program focused on delivering timely geospatial intelligence, situational awareness, and economic impact insights during disasters and large‑scale disruptions. This role is ideal for a hands‑on GIS professional who can rapidly build and update maps, work across the Esri ecosystem and QGIS, and leverage Python to support data processing, automation, and repeatable analytics. The analyst will support both steady‑state monitoring and disaster activation operations, where rapid turnaround, accuracy, and collaboration are critical.
Work Environment:
Location: NV5 Geospatial Regional office in Dulles, VA or surrounding NoVa area
During disaster activations, the role may require extended hours (including nights and weekends) to support 24/7 operational reporting. Outside of disaster activations, the role follows a standard work schedule.
Hybrid work schedule permitted
Travel up to 15% of the time

Geospatial Analysis & Mapping
Rapidly develop, update, and maintain operational maps and geospatial products in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder, Dashboards, and QGIS
Produce high‑quality static and interactive maps to support disaster monitoring, response, and recovery efforts
Integrate hazard footprints with business, infrastructure, and lifeline datasets
Support hotspot, proximity, overlay, and exposure analyses aligned with FEMA operational needs
Python & Automation
Use Python for geospatial data processing, ETL workflows, and basic automation (e.g., ArcPy, GeoPandas, Pandas)
Support repeatable analytics and scalable workflows for multi‑event and multi‑region reporting
Assist with data validation, transformation, and quality checks across multiple data sources
Data Management & Integration
Manage and organize spatial and tabular datasets across formats (FGDB, GeoPackage, Parquet, CSV, REST services)
Support data ingestion from federal, state, local, and commercial sources
Maintain clean, well‑documented data structures and metadata
Collaborate with data engineers, economists, and developers
Disaster Operations Support
Participate in disaster activation rotations, providing extended‑hour support as needed
Assist with rapid‑turnaround map updates, situation reports, and executive‑level briefings
Coordinate with project leadership to ensure products meet operational timelines
Qualifications Requirements
3+ years of professional GIS experience
Strong proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and the Esri suite
Proficiency working with QGIS
Practical experience using Python for GIS or data workflows
Strong understanding of spatial analysis concepts
Ability to work efficiently under time pressure
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Experience Preferred
Experience supporting disaster response, emergency management, or FEMA‑related projects
Familiarity with hazard datasets (flood, wildfire, wind, landslide)
Experience with dashboards and web GIS
Knowledge of data governance or enterprise GIS practices
Availability Expectations
Standard business hours during steady‑state operations. 24/7 availability may be required during disaster activations only, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Activation periods are episodic and event‑driven.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening.
