We are currently recruiting for several seasonal residential positions at Camp Frank A. Day, a coed residential camp in East Brookfield, MA. Campers learn independence, character, and teamwork through a wide range of physical, social, and educational activities.

GENERAL FUNCTION The residential camp inclusion and behavior specialist will tend to the needs of special‑needs or special‑population children and support unit directors and cabin staff with behavioral challenges, creating a safe and nurturing environment for campers and staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Actively participate in and lead portions of All Staff Training and meetings.

Follow established state laws, ACA regulations, and camp policies regarding camp health care.

Demonstrate and teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all campers and staff.

Support our DEIB statement and implement strategies to advance equity, diversity, belonging, and inclusion.

Maintain an inventory of supplies needed for the inclusivity of all special‑needs and special‑population campers and staff.

Meet with the Leadership team as needed to discuss current special‑needs and special‑population camper and staff needs.

Maintain a weekly log of all issues and success stories and submit accident/incident reports to the Camp Director as needed.

Inform the Camp Director, Assistant Director, and Leadership team of any camper or staff problems, issues, or concerns.

Correct and document situations that endanger the emotional or physical safety of any person.

Work with Unit Directors and Cabin Counselors to address ongoing challenging situations in units.

Assist the medical team by being present and supporting any issues encountered by special‑needs and special‑population campers and staff.

Help determine when individuals may need treatment away from camp or may need to leave camp.

Communicate concerns and success stories with parents and families.

Follow all camp rules, regulations, and policies and enforce them among peers.

Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the general public at all times.

Visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental hazards related to assigned activities.

Respond appropriately to emergencies requiring first aid and/or CPR.

Submit all required paperwork on time.

Demonstrate willingness to go above and beyond written job description.

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Education Degree or experience as a School Para‑Professional or Behavior Specialist.

2+ years of experience working with special needs and/or special populations (LGBTQIA+), or at least 2 years of college with a focus on special education or social work centered on special populations.

Current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Adult/Child certifications.

Valid driver’s license and at least 21 years of age.

Desire and ability to live and work in a camp setting.

Experience implementing camp‑wide inclusivity initiatives and the camp inclusivity plan.

Commitment to supporting the organization’s anti‑racist work and willingness to engage with members on this topic.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups from all social and economic backgrounds.

Reliable, dependable, strong time‑management skills, and ability to multi‑task.

Good role model, high integrity, and adaptability.

Ability to assess and implement risk‑management procedures.

Ability to understand and follow directions.

Positive attitude and ability to build a cohesive team.

Successful completion of Massachusetts‑mandated CORI and SORI checks.

Sound judgment, integrity, problem‑solving skills, and risk‑management aptitude.

Human relation skills with the general public and staff.

Physical assessment skills with children ages 7‑18.

Field experience preferred.
