Veterinary Student Externship – United Veterinary Care
Join our externship program and apply your classroom learning to real‑world veterinary practice. Overview
We offer hands‑on externships exclusively for veterinary students in their clinical years (typically 3rd or 4th year) at AVMA‑accredited schools. Externs will rotate through a partner animal hospital of their choice, gaining experience in surgical, medical, and emergency cases. Eligibility
Current veterinary student at an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school. Priority scheduling for students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit. Proof of professional liability insurance. SAVMA members qualify for no‑cost insurance via the SAVMA Member Benefit link. Hospital Partner – Curry Ford Animal Hospital
Species treated: Canine and Feline. Services offered: General practice, general surgical, ocular/facial, laser, in‑house bloodwork, radiology. Stipend
To make externships accessible, we provide stipends to offset travel and lodging costs, unless prohibited by the attending veterinary school. What to Expect
Externs will actively participate in surgical cases, dental procedures, emergencies, sick patient workups, and routine medical appointments. Working under experienced veterinarians and support staff, externs will: Conduct patient history, preliminary exam, and formulate diagnostic and treatment plans. Discuss cases with supervising veterinarians, verifying exam findings and treatment plans. Select one case per week for further research and case discussion to enhance learning. Engage in mentorship, encouraging active participation and client interaction. Benefits
