The Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS), Division for Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY), is seeking a licensed psychologist to work as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team in a juvenile justice residential setting/facility.

Base pay: $137,875.00/yr - $137,875.00/yr

Duties and Responsibilities

Ordering and maintaining updated testing and assessment materials.

Supervision of testing and assessment completed by Masters level psychologists and unlicensed psychologists (Psychologist 2, Associate Psychologist).

Admission screening, including mental status exam and suicide assessment.

30‑day assessment, including administration of various mental health and substance use screens, youth and collateral interviews, and record review to develop a psychosocial assessment and subsequent mental health treatment plan.

Collaboration and treatment planning with assigned psychiatrist as indicated.

Individual and group counseling and psychotherapy.

Treatment reviews.

Cognitive and other psychological testing as indicated.

Serve as a member of the facility Committee on Special Education.

Discharge planning.

The Licensed Psychologist works with youth case managers, direct care staff, education and medical staff to develop and enact comprehensive treatment plans aimed at increasing youths’ skills in the areas of emotional intelligence, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.

The Licensed Psychologist reports to the Facility Assistant Director for Treatment (ADT) who provides individual and group clinical supervision. A monthly statewide psychology supervision provides practitioners the opportunity to discuss cases and systems considerations with other psychologists working in DJJOY facilities (of which there are 9). DJJOY provides numerous clinical trainings with accompanying NYS Department of Education approved Continuing Education Units (CEU’s).

Minimum Qualifications

One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.

Licensed and currently registered to practice psychology in New York State.

Must maintain a valid New York State license and registration.

Open to the Public: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, candidates must meet the open‑competitive minimum qualifications for this position.

Additional Comments

Flexible work hours offered – clinical staff may select a work schedule within the 7 am – 6 pm time frame.

A starting salary rate increase is in effect: starting salary for Licensed Psychologists is now $117,875. Staff are also approved to receive geographic pay of $20,000.

An individual with experience and the necessary skill sets to provide crucial behavioral and mental health services to adolescents with developmental and intellectual disabilities is preferred.

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non‑competitive appointment; no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title.

Temporary NY HELPS employees may have their appointment changed to permanent non‑competitive status after satisfactory performance. Within one year, employees under NY HELPS are expected to have their non‑competitive employment status converted to competitive status.

Background Investigation Requirements

All prospective employees will undergo a Criminal Background Check (CBC), including state and federal criminal history record checks.

All prospective employees will be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR).

For DJJOY prospective appointees, a check against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) will be conducted.
